Our large (possibly annoying!) group, with some noisy small kids was greeted warmly by our elderly hostess and orders were taken quickly. A favourite amongst locals/ resident foreigners and tourists. Tasty yakitori, and a good range of classic Japanese pub food. Fairly big space for a Nozawa izakaya, with additional tatami seating downstairs.
MoreNice. I love it
Amazing food and service. Cheap prices
Always great food
Wonderful food the steamed dumplings were amazing - but you need to book in advance
MoreA reservation-only izakaya with a wide variety of food offerings. It's a small establishment dedicated to providing the best possible experience for their customers as places are very limited. Service moves at a steady pace as food is freshly prepared upon ordering. Do order their skewered dishes and fish dishes!
MoreGreat food and English speaking owner. Have Gluten free soy and we alter some of the dishes to suit celiac's.
MoreGreat izakaya
Great little spot. Lots of smaller plates, so a chance to try lots of tasty things. Book if you have a few people & recommend the karage chicken and the deep fried tofu.
MoreAwesome food, great traditional izakaya

MoreIt may be only here this season.
An old-fashioned izakaya where you can drink easily, with two parlors (20 for 20 people and 6 for 4 people), 7 seats for the counter and 4 seats for the table. As it is highly rated by TripAdvisor, it is difficult to reserve as it is full of foreigners in winter (early January to March).
MoreFood was fantastic with an extensive menu. Stand out dishes included the chicken karaage, mushroom and cheese fried dumplings, tuna fried wantons, slow stewed pork belly and the clams cooked 2 ways - in butter and sake. They get busy so be sure to book!
MoreGreat service
Awesome food and great service - don’t miss this one!
SAKAI is Yakitory in Nozawa Onsen village
Would have loved to try this restaurant, and made a reservation two weeks in advance only to be refused seating on the day of reservation because they “lost” it. Extremely disappointing.
MoreSimple and delicious japanese food. Skewers chicken skin is excellent! Fried udon and octopus are nice too! Recommended!
MoreFantastic meal, very friendly staff. Enjoyed the Warm Shochu. Great time for the whole family.
MoreHospitable proprietress and a good range of reasonably priced izakaya style food. We had ramen, yakitori don, more yakitori, chicken Skin, tsukune, chicken wings and onigiri. Halfway-through, smoke from the grill kind of overcame us but the staff managed to get that under control after a bit. You will come out of there smelling like bbq though ...
